Analyzing recent developments in technology we can make two predictions regarding the future of smartphones and location aware applications. First, smartphones will become as common as mobile phones. The smartphone is extremely likely to be the next mobile device of anyone who doesn’t already own one. Second, as battery life increases, smartphones will be able to send and receive GPS information 24/7. This will create grounds for a wide range of services designed to work with consumers and their daily routines.

Privacy is one issue of decreasing importance, at least on a macro-level, people are willing to display personal information online in social networks and other services.
